Good morning,
Colorado
An all too familiar breaking news alert overnight from America, another mass shooting, the 2nd in a week. A policeman is among the victims of the shooting spree at a Grocery Story in Bolder, and the gunman was taken into custody at the scene but not before he killed 10 people. The policeman Eric Talley was a father of 7 children, and was training to find a new career to get off the front lines of policing.
In the coming days we will hear the motive which won’t make much sense to reasoned people, and also how easily the shooter was able to buy his weapons. More gun control? Of course not, because America loves its guns no matter how much bloodshed.
Its notable that in last weeks tragic shootings of 8 people in massage parlours in Atlanta, the gunman bought a 9mm handgun just hours before his attack. No one should be able to buy a handgun, let alone buy one and have it in their possession in the same day. Change the laws America to restrict handguns and implement a cooling off period between application to purchase and possession of the firearm. We have yet to hear in the Bolder case details of the weapon other than it was a rifle.

Israel Election Crisis
Israelis go to the election polls yet again today to try to get a Government as the country is in political turmoil. It’s the fourth election in two years, with no one party able to get a majority and no one political leader able to form a ruling coalition. Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to step aside despite even though he is on trial for fraud and bribery and corruption charges and has been the on again off again P.M. since 2009. He is no friend to the peace process and peace with Palestinians is virtually impossible while Netanyahu remains on the scene.
The Israeli democracy relies on larger parties forming coalition with minority religious parties, and should have been reformed long ago. Those smaller parties extort money and influence far for their support for larger ones, but the system is chaotic and begs for reform.

UK travel ban
Today marks one year since the first Covid19 lockdown in the United Kingdom. It was late coming as other European nations were restricting travel and asking people to stay at home as a virus from spread rapidly around the world and the UK Prime Minister encouraged people to shake hands and go to the pub. Later Boris Johnson would get covid himself and nearly die in the hospital as Britain suffered one of the worst death tolls in the world, and now counts more than 126,000 total covid fatalities, and many who died were alone in overwhelmed hospitals with relatives kept at home because they couldn’t visit isolation wards.
As I write this Britain is still in a third lockdown, with most businesses closed including restaurants and gyms and hair salons, and a third wave of covid sweeping Europe and some easing of restrictions difficult in the current crisis.
The UK Government now is passing a law that will fine anyone trying to leave the country for a vacation 5000 pounds (7 thousand U.S. $) until at least July ! Millions locked down on this Island while vaccines are being rolled out and warnings the summer may be cancelled, at least the summer abroad. I can’t imagine being locked in London for the summer, but with new variants the Government doesn’t want millions going abroad in the summer and bringing vaccine resistant mutations back to the UK.
