Good Morning,
Canada-U.S. Heat Wave
By all accounts its climate change and extreme weather as a ‘heat dome’ has trapped in record breaking searing temperatures from Oregon to British Columbia, Canada.
Lytton B.C. north of Vancouver hit an all time heart record in Canada Sunday of 46.1 degrees (114 degrees F) while with a forecast temperature of 47 by Tuesday.
Seattle hit 40C degrees /104F Sunday evening. For context, in recorded history, Seattle has had 5 days of 100+ temperatures and two were this weekend.
Daily and all-time temperature records are expected to be broken over the coming days as a "heat dome" settles in over Western Canada, from British Columbia into Saskatchewan and up into the Northwest Territories and Yukon.
Sinking air will push down on the air near the ground, basically like a pressure cooker say weather experts and that high pressure system is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Miami Building Collapse
It’s been difficult watching coverage of the “rescue attempt” at the Champlain Towers building collapse, bring so little news of survivors. The building contained 136 apartments, and 55 of them collapsed early Thursday.
As of this morning 150 are still missing and only 9 are officially listed as dead. As time goes on the chance of more survivors dwindles.
A three year old engineers report was made public on Saturday, and highlighted "a major error" in the original design of the seafront Champlain Towers. It said the fault prevented water draining away from the base of the building.
U.S. Airstrikes Iraq/Syria
The United States carried out airstrikes early Monday morning in Iraq and Syria against two Iranian-backed militias that the Pentagon said had conducted drone strikes against American personnel in Iraq in recent weeks, the Defense Department said.
Pentagon planners have been gathering information for weeks on the sites and militia networks that use them, American officials said on Sunday. U.S. President Biden approved striking the three targets, the officials said.
Trump May Face Criminal Charges
New York prosecutors have told former President Donald Trump’s attorneys working for the Trump Organization, that they must respond by Monday with any last arguments as to why criminal charges shouldn't be filed against his family business.
The Washington Post reported the deadline was another strong signal that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and New York Attorney General Letitia James are considering criminal charges against the company as an entity.
Britain’s Kissing Health Minister - Resigns
Britains Health Minister Matt Hancock has resigned and the P.M. Boris Johnson who stood by him is under questioning about integrity and honesty in Government.
Never mind that Hancock may have been one of the worst health Secretaries in Britains History. He and the P.M. Boris Johnson, repeatedly delayed lockdowns which fuelled spikes in Covid rates, and then reversed policy in the end because public health demanded it. Hancock was also accused of lying about seniors who were discharged from hospitals and sent back to nursing homes to spread the virus, and he bumbled his way through PPE scandals and an early lack of pandemic preparedness.
And, hypocritical Hancock, was one of the first to condemn a University advisor to the Government, when he broke social distancing rules to see a woman he was having an affair with. Hancock said then it was right epidemiologist Neil Ferguson should resign.
Well, this weekend Matt Hancock resigned after a tabloid newspaper revealed Government security video showing him kissing his lover, who he put on the public payroll, Gina Coladangelo. Who leaked the video is still a mystery.
It was obvious the moment the story broke on Friday, that Hancock had to go, even though P.M. Johnson supported his conduct and said the matter was closed.
Hancock simply couldn’t stand before the Country, and ask people to follow the rules he had broken with his sorted affair that has cost him his job and his 15 year long marriage. Whats notable is the Conservative Party was largely silent for days falling in line and supporting Hancock to protect their political careers.
I am not a fan of reporting on people’s private lives. But in this case Hancock broke rules that are in fact social distancing laws, that others have been fined for breaching in a pandemic. As I said on Friday when the pictures first appeared he had to go.
Fake Vaccine Certificates - Russia
In Moscow restaurants have moved to restrict seating only to people who can show they were vaccinated, or are immune to the virus because they caught it in the last few months.
But surveys show more than 60 per cent of Russians don’t want the vaccine because they don’t trust Government claims it’s safe.
Solution? In a country where fake drivers licenses, and graduation papers are for sale in the Metro underground market, not only can you buy a fake vaccine registration papers, but even have the info uploaded onto the Government vaccination database showing you were vaccinated, even though you were not.
Several news agencies report on the sale of fake vaccines, and confirm the hackers were able to upload vaccine info to Government websites. Cost is reportedly 200 U.S. dollars.
Some health workers may be involved say reports, which sees them pouring out a vaccine and uploading the information to Government data bases that a vaccine was administered. And some of those who want fake vaccines are health workers themselves.
This spring, a survey by the independent Levada Center showed that 31% of Russian doctors did not trust Sputnik V vaccines, and 23% of Doctors did not plan to be inoculated against Covid.
Canada vs. USA
If your not a hockey fan, that’s just not ok! Ok it’s fine. We understand. But you better watch the final series because it’s Canada vs. USA and we expect you to cheer for Canada!
Anyway all kidding aside this is a big night because the Montreal Canadians are in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1993. (My Toronto Maple Leafs last won in 1967 so I will cheer for The Canadiens)
The series against the Tampa Bay Lightning begins on Monday in Florida. The Montreal coach has had to stay at home for the last 2 weeks because he had Covid. Tonight he returns.
Both teams are under strict testing and isolation rules, as the U.S.-Canada border remains closed in the pandemic until at least July 21.
Have a good Monday everyone and subscribe to this letter if you haven’t already.
