Good morning,
Vaccines for Kids?
There is something in Covid that inflames the lining of blood vessels and heart and lungs. And the best way to fight that, or prevent it, is to have a vaccine. That’s why the UK’s Govt advisory panel on vaccinations surprised everyone by not recommending vaccines for 12 to 15 yr olds, especially as covid rates in Britain are taking off, just as school resumes.
The panel declared that the health gains from vaccinating the entire age group were greater than the risks, “the margin of benefit is considered too small to support universal vaccination of healthy 12- to 15-year-olds at this time”.
That’s puzzling to everyone especially as vaccination programs for kids have gone ahead in places like Israel and Germany and the U.S. And the panel did not find the vaccines are in any way a large health risk, but noted one risk was the chance of myocarditis, a form of heart inflammation, in children who receive the vaccine. While this is extremely rare, and children tend to recover quickly, there was uncertainty about any longer term effects, with further research needed, it said.
Dr Deepti Gurdasani, a clinical epidemiologist from Queen Mary University of London, called the move “completely shocking”.
“They are recklessly endangering children’s health based on ideology rather than science. The benefits of vaccination overwhelmingly outweigh the risks – this has been clear for a while. Yet, as more than 12 million children have been vaccinated across the globe, and 47% fully vaccinated in France, with many European countries close to this target, JCVI has taken an exceptional stance with absolutely no scientific justification.”
PARENTS - We are all of course somewhat confused about whether we should now vaccine our children. I will watch the debate carefully this week in the UK as the Gov here is likely to proceed with vaccinations regardless to curb disruptions of school life. But of course I prioritize my sons health over school disruptions, as any parent does.
The decision of course feeds the paranoia of anti vaccine groups, which are already super charged by fear, which in most cases is based on the ridiculous.
U.S. Covid
The summer brought a relaxed over confident America, with soaring travel and an enthusiastic belief the pandemic was ending, but it actually ushered in a new chapter that has delivered a soaring death toll, and full hospitals.
The U.S. is now reporting 160,000 new cases a day and about 100,000 Covid patients in hospital nationwide with every day 1,500 Americans dying from Covid 19.
Sarah Harding - Breast Cancer
So many find the news shocking that Girls Aloud singer, Sarah harding has died from breast cancer because she was just 39 years old and her death resonates with many women during the pandemic. The fact is while breast cancer death in younger women, is relatively rare, during the pandemic many of us have avoided going to a doctor or hospital for other health problems.
Harding admitted before her death, she had tried to deny her breast cancer, and waited too long until the cancer had spread through her body despite months of pain, and early obvious signs of cancer.
Take care of your health everyone.
